Everybody loves smoothies, right? They’re quick to make and taste amazing, but they can also have a very positive impact on the skin when you add a few certain ingredients. The skin responds well to particular vitamins and minerals, so each of these smoothies aims to target some of them.
You could gradually buy the ingredients for each of these smoothies and eventually, you could have a different one each day. These make a great breakfast when you’re in a hurry or the perfect afternoon snack. For the recipes with greek yogurt, you can simply swap it out for a plant-based yogurt to make all of the recipes plant-based.
All you need is a blender and you’re good to go. Try to incorporate a few of these smoothies into your diet this week and your skin will definitely appreciate it!
Tropical Smoothie – Vitamin C
- 300ml orange juice (freshly squeezed if possible)
- 100g frozen mango
- 100g frozen pineapple
- 2 tbsp greek yogurt
To make this smoothie, simply blend all of your ingredients together until smooth. The frozen mango, pineapple, and greek yogurt will make a creamy frozen smoothie that is delicious, especially in the summer. You can make this in large batches for friends and you can all benefit from the goodness!
The benefits of vitamin C for the skin are widely appreciated. Oranges, pineapples, and mangos are fantastic sources of vitamin C, making this the perfect smoothie for your skin. If you don’t have one of these ingredients, simply add a bit more of the things you do have and it will still have the same benefits. As vitamin C is an antioxidant, it can help to protect the skin from damage caused by UV light. It also encourages the production of melanin which can help to even out skin tone.
Cherry Bakewell Smoothie – Magnesium
- 100g frozen cherries
- 2 tbsp almond butter
- 2 tbsp fresh almonds
- 250ml plant-based milk
- 30g rolled oats
Again, for this one just blend everything together until nice and smooth. Not only is this smoothie great for the skin, but the sweetness might prevent you from craving sugar which really isn’t good for the skin. The rolled oats help to make this smoothie nice and filling, making it a perfect (healthy) treat for breakfast!
Both cherries and almonds are a great source of magnesium. Magnesium can play a role in reducing levels of cortisol, which in turn can reduce skin disorders and improve the overall appearance of the skin. If this smoothie isn’t quite to your taste, then you should still make a significant effort to take magnesium tablets, as it is really beneficial for both your overall health and your skin.
Green Smoothie – Avocado
- ½ an banana
- ½ an avocado
- Handful of spinach
- A handful of frozen mango
- 250ml plant-based milk
You know the drill! Blend everything together and enjoy. This smoothie is the perfect combination of healthy, creamy, and sweet. The mango and banana bring a lovely taste to the smoothie whilst the avocado is great for consistency.
Avocados are fantastic for the skin, as they are high in healthy fats which can help you to achieve healthy and glowing skin. The skin should also be well moisturized which in turn can help to prevent aging. This smoothie will give you the perfect portion of avocado to help your skin feel amazing.
Spinach also contains antioxidants that help to rectify a range of different skin problems, as well as your general health. Other leafy greens, such as kale, also contain similar properties, so try to incorporate them into your diet regularly to help your body from the inside out!
Carrot, Turmeric and Ginger Smoothie – Vitamin A
- 4 peeled and chopped carrots
- 400ml water
- 2cm piece of ginger, chopped up
- ½ tsp turmeric
- 300ml plant milk
- 1tsp sweetener of your choice (honey, syrup, etc)
For this smoothie, first, you will need to make carrot juice. Place the 4 carrots and 400ml water into a blender and blend for a few minutes until the carrot is almost or completely broken down. Place a cheesecloth or strainer over a bowl and slowly pour the blended carrot mixture through the strainer. Squeeze the excess water out of the residue in the strainer and set aside the juice mixture in the bowl. Use the remaining carrots in another recipe, such as in the base of a sauce or pasta dish, so nothing goes to waste.
You can also buy carrot juice in some places, and of course, you can use a juicer as well. We just wanted to make sure this recipe was accessible for everyone. Next, place 200ml of your carrot juice, ginger, turmeric, plant milk, and sweetener into a clean blender and blend until smooth. You have your finished smoothie!
Firstly, carrots are fantastic for the skin as they are packed full of vitamin A. Vitamin A has anti-inflammatory properties as well as the ability to encourage cell growth. Both of these things help to naturally exfoliate the skin and keep it looking wonderful.
Ginger is also fantastic for the skin as it contains antioxidants that preserve the collagen in the skin. The ginger also gives this smoothie a really nice kick! Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory ingredients and antioxidants, which give the skin a wonderful glow.
For those of you with less of a sweet tooth, this more savory tasting smoothie is delicious!
Berry Blast Smoothie – Vitamin K
- Handful of blueberries
- Handful of raspberries
- 2 tbsp greek yogurt
- 100ml water
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
To make this smoothie, simply add all the ingredients and blend them together! The magic ingredient in this smoothie is the blueberries, as they contain vitamin K which can help to reduce inflammation and promote the healing of wounds. This can help to minimize scars and fade stretch marks to help skin look bright and youthful.
The chia seeds are also fantastic for the skin. They are known to be a superfood that can help with all aspects of our health, including the ability to reduce signs of aging, reduce scarring and keep skin generally healthy. You can fit chia seeds into all elements of your diet and they are easily accessible in most supermarkets.
